The Otherness Project is a Hertiage Lottery Funded Project which introduced a group of Muslim girls from Newcastle upon-Tyne to the involvement and contribution of Indian Soldiers and volunteers in the First World War through a series of creative research workshops in a number of key cultural establishments within the North East. This project has had a lasting effect on the girls as now they are known as ‘Sheroes’, an empowering program of creative and physical activities which was created through this project to support and encourage these young girls to be more confident and vocal about their lives here now in the North East of England.
