Hamed Sulliman, born in Aden, was a British subject. He had a British father which could have influenced his decision to come and settle in the UK. He came to South Shields as a seaman, working as a fireman when he was called up for the war. For his loyal service, he received the Mercantile Marine War Medal.
Here is the discharge document which cites Sulliman along with several other Yemeni seamen from South Shields, their ships and service.
